2 Miele@home system, associated Miele services and generated data
2.1 Miele@home system and associated Miele services
The Miele@home system connects your network-enabled domestic appliances and enables them to be managed and controlled via mobile Miele applications ("Miele apps"), Miele voice assistant integrations (e.g. Miele Skills for Amazon Alexa and Miele Google Actions) and other connected Miele services, in each case where Miele acts as the data controller (hereinafter collectively referred to as "Connected Products and Connected Services"). Other connected Miele services are:
Remote Service: Enabling remote access and remote updates.
AI diagnosis: Error detection and troubleshooting using artificial intelligence.
Gourmet Boxes: Inventory of refrigerator, freezer compartment or storage contents.
Recipe favourites: transmission of a recipe to a connected product.
The terms of use for the connected Miele services, including information on duration and termination, can be found here.
2.2 Generated data
Depending on which connected products and services you use, the following data may be generated (hereinafter collectively referred to as "product and service data"):
Programme run and status data: Information on the configuration status of the domestic appliance and its consumption during operation.
Media function data: Data generated from the use or provision of media functions such as camera control.
Programme error data: Information about errors that have occurred in the programme run, including their duration, frequency and, if applicable, accompanying circumstances.
Interaction data: Data generated by the user's direct interaction with the device, e.g. during operation, when saving favourites or via voice and assistance interfaces.
Feedback data: System feedback or notifications that are actively transmitted to the end user, e.g. reminders, visual cues or acoustic signals.
Session data: Data required for checking access rights or managing active user or system sessions.
Device information: Technical features and characteristics of the device that are collected independently of its specific use.
Service information: Technical features and characteristics of the connected service, regardless of its specific use.
Customer data: Personal or company-related information that can be directly assigned to a specific customer (e.g. customer number, sales company, preferred language).
Pure system information: Technical backend information unrelated to specific user interactions or device functions. This mainly includes database meta fields.
Diagnostic data: Information required for the diagnosis, monitoring and updating of devices, including data for remote updates.
Connected products and services generate product and service data continuously and in real time (at varying intervals depending on the date or when events occur, such as programme errors). The volume of data generated and the categories of data generated depend on the type and extent of your use. On average, this amounts to between 5MB and 85MB per device per day.
3 Use of product and service data
We use the product and service data for the following purposes:
fulfilling agreements with the user,
the provision of maintenance services,
maintaining and improving the functionality and security of the connected products and services,
improving the functionality and security of other devices, services or features offered by Miele,
to develop new devices, services or features, including artificial intelligence (AI), and
combining with other data or deriving information for any lawful purpose, such as analysis and evaluation.
The product and service data is processed for the aforementioned purposes by us and our affiliated companies (e.g. Miele X B.V.). In addition, the product and service data is also passed on to our service providers if this is necessary to achieve the aforementioned purposes. As a matter of principle, no further transfer to third parties outside the Miele Group takes place. Personal data is processed exclusively in accordance with the applicable data protection regulations. Further information on the purposes of processing can be found in our data protection information.
If you use the voice assistant integration for system feedback (e.g. for the reminder function via Amazon Alexa), the corresponding commands are transmitted to the respective voice service provider (e.g. Amazon). When using such external services, additional data may be collected directly by the respective providers. Please refer to the terms of use and privacy policy of the respective provider.
4 Storage and deletion
The data is stored in a cloud instance. It is generally stored for as long as you have an active Miele account and the networked products and associated services are connected to this account. The data will be deleted or changed upon request via the contact options listed in section 1. Personal data will be deleted once the respective processing purpose has been fulfilled and the statutory retention periods have expired.
5 Data access and transfer
We provide you with the product and service data at least to the extent required by the Data Protection Regulation. This is done in the following ways:
5.1 Direct data access via the Miele app or interface
You can continuously access essential programme run and status data, media function data, programme error data and device information in real time. Access is either via the Miele apps (visualisation of data), which you can use with your Miele account, or via the interfaces in JSON format ("Miele APIs") in accordance with the API specification.
5.2 Provision as a report, transfer to a recipient specified by you
On request, we will provide both the data mentioned in section 5.1 and all other product and service data in the form of a cumulative report. The report contains all data available at the time of creation (not continuously and not in real time). You can choose to receive the report in PDF or CSV format; media function files can also be provided in JPEG format. Upon request, we can also send the report directly to a recipient specified by you.
Please send your request by email to eudataact@miele.com , stating your customer number and your registered email address. In individual cases, the information contained in these reports may exceed the minimum required under the Data Protection Regulation. Upon request, you can therefore additionally specify that the report should be limited to the legally required extent and/or that personal data should be excluded.
6 Right of appeal
You have the right to complain to the Federal Network Agency about the handling of your data. Insofar as the processing of personal data is concerned, you can also contact the data protection authority responsible for you or us.
